Dr. Anjali Nauriyal is a respected journalist, academic, actor, and cultural researcher from Uttarakhand. She began her journalism career in the early 1990s and later became the editor of one of the first regional English magazines in the state. Later, as an assistant professor at the Indian Military Academy, she taught English Literature at the Army Cadet College affiliated with Jawaharlal Nehru University. Combining her passion for writing with teaching, she joined The Times Group and played a key role in establishing the Times of Doon for the region. This innovative supplement focused on issues related to Uttarakhand’s development, culture, and environment.

Beyond journalism, Dr. Nauriyal’s career includes various roles, such as Features Editor at Garhwal Post and Media Head at Himalayan Hospital and Swami Rama Himalayan University. She has also pursued acting, appearing in films like Maazi, Viraam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, The Bathtub, Pieces of Partition, 5th September, Qais Laila, and the Peshawar web series, showcasing her versatility and creative talent.

As a Senior Fellow of the Ministry of Culture, Dr. Nauriyal has conducted in-depth research on cultural heritage and authored “Retelling of the Folk Ballads of Garhwal,” a regional bestseller. Her numerous awards—including Pride of Uttarakhand, Nanda Devi Award, GIAN Award, Uma Shakti Samman, Chief Minister’s Award, and Uttarakhand Ratan—highlight her outstanding contributions to journalism and society. As the founding director of the Sacred Saplings Society, she continues to advocate for the empowerment of girls. She is currently working on her upcoming books about Kumaoni folk tales and fiction. Looking ahead, she aims to promote breast cancer awareness among young women in educational institutions and community settings through the BCYW Foundation’s structured programs for the region.
