Dr. Marina Elena Cazzaniga has been directing the Phase 1 Research Center at IRCCS San Gerardo since 2017. She has built her oncological career in prestigious scientific institutions (Istituto Tumori di Milano, IRCCS San Gerardo in Monza) and healthcare facilities (IRCCS San Gerardo). Throughout her career, she has collaborated with national and international research groups, establishing herself as a national Key Opinion Leader in the field of breast cancer. She has pioneered innovative research areas, such as metronomic therapy, and has become an international expert leader.

In 2018, she founded and became the President of the International School of Metronomic Chemotherapy, a free, web-based school aimed at promoting the scientific dissemination of metronomic therapy, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, as well as in Vietnam, Korea, the Philippines, and China. She has coordinated and conducted various “Train the Trainers” courses there. From 2018 to 2024, she participated in numerous “Meet the Expert” events across Southeast Asia, fostering scientific collaborations with universities in Beijing (Prof. Fei Ma, Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College), Guangzhou (Prof. Sushen Wang, Sun Yat-Sen University), and Shanghai (Prof. Hu, Jiao Tong University).

Prof. Cazzaniga has also coordinated national and European position papers and Consensus Meetings on metronomic therapy and, more recently, on the long-term toxicities of CDK 4/6 inhibitors in metastatic breast cancer. Over the years, she has expanded her research to other areas of Medical Oncology, such as agnostic drugs and supportive therapies, contributing to international studies published in high-impact factor journals.
