Dr. Michael Shawel Lemma is a recognized Chief Clinical Oncologist and Assistant Professor with over four years of consultant-level experience. He has been instrumental in advancing cancer care and palliative services across Ethiopia. With a solid academic background and a wealth of clinical expertise, Dr. Michael has emerged as a pivotal figure in the country’s oncology landscape. He is the former Secretary General of the Ethiopian Society of Hematology and Oncology (2022–2024); he spearheaded administrative and strategic initiatives that enhanced the Society’s visibility and impact on national cancer care. He established the first-ever breast cancer support group in Eastern Ethiopia and later won ASCO’s IDEA-Palliative Care 2025 Award in Chicago, USA. Dr. Lemma is reaching out to young women and his first circle to promote the BCYW Foundation’s core message and the 2040 Initiative: The First Circle Awareness in Ethiopia.
