Dr. Shimizu is the Professor and Head, Department of Breast and Medical Oncology and Vice-Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center, National Center for Global Health and Medicine, Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Shimizu graduated from Medical School of Tokyo Medical Dental University in 1996. She received her training as a medical oncologist at National Cancer Center Hospital. She started her career as a staff physician at the Department of Breast and Medical Oncology in National Cancer Center Hospital in 2003. She obtained her doctorate degree from Tokyo Medical Dental University with the study on “Fc-Gamma receptor polymorphism and gene expression of peripheral blood mononuclear cells in patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer receiving single-agent trastuzumab,” for which she was awarded Breast Cancer Award from Japanese Breast Cancer Society in 2017. She has taken leadership in developing the first onco-fertility guideline for women with breast cancer in Japan, which was published in 2014. She joined as a Japanese lead investigator in POSITIVE study. She has expanded her activities for the betterment of the care of adolescent and young adults (AYA) with cancer, which led her to serve as the President of AYA Oncology Alliance (AYAKEN) in Japan since 2022. She was selected as Doctor of the Year 2014 from AKEBONO-KAI, one of the oldest peer support groups in Japan.
