Keshav K Singh, PhD
Professor and Joy and Bill Harbert Endowed Chair Cancer Genetics
University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA
Dr. Singh is a world leader in demystifying mitochondria’s role in human health, diversity, and cancer disparities. Over two decades, Keshav has been investigating intracellular mitochondrial communication to understand, prevent, and cure breast cancer and other cancers. His laboratory was the first to describe mitochondrial regulation of epigenetics in the nuclear genome in cancer. He also described how mitochondrial dysfunction leads to nuclear genome instability, a hallmark of cancer. He is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal Mitochondrion. In addition to his interest in cancer, he is also instrumental in promoting understanding and awareness of incurable mitochondrial diseases. Dr. Singh has been cited in newspapers and magazines and has given interviews to radio shows and television outlets around the world. As an entrepreneur, Dr. Singh founded Yuva Biosciences, and in 2020, he was recognized as one of the Innovation Heroes by Newsweek.
