Dr. Peeters is a surgical oncologist who began specializing in breast cancer surgery at the Netherlands Cancer Institute – the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek in Amsterdam in 2005. Since 2020, she has been a professor at the Amsterdam University Medical Center. Her research interests include: i) tailored locoregional treatment after neoadjuvant systemic treatment, ii) localization techniques in non-palpable breast cancer, and iii) the quality of breast cancer care in the Netherlands. She has contributed to research about 150 peer-reviewed papers in international journals (www.researchgate.net). Over the years, Dr. Peeters’s interest in clinical and scientific work was influenced by her own experience as a young breast cancer patient, leading to providing personalized treatment for every individual with breast cancer.

She served as a board member of the Dutch Association of Surgeons from 2008 to 2012, focusing on ‘Quality of Care’. In 2011, she co-founded the Dutch NABON Breast Cancer Audit (NBCA). Additionally, she has been a member of the International BCC (Breast Centers Certification) Audit Network since 2014. In 2013, she co-founded the Dutch Working Group of Breast Cancer Surgeons. Since December 2016, she has been a board member and chair of the Dutch Breast Cancer Group (NABON), overseeing the Dutch breast cancer guidelines and quality of care programs. Since November 2016, she has been a member of the executive committee of the RIVM, the Dutch Institute for Breast Cancer Screening. She is the Dutch representative in the OPBC and a member of the St. Gallen Panel in 2023 and 2025. Furthermore, she is a member of the Dutch Association of Surgeons (NVVH), the Dutch Association of Surgical Oncology (NVCO), the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO), the European Society of Mastology (EUSOMA), the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO), and the EORTC Breast Cancer Group (EORTC BCG).
