Dr. Rehman is a surgical oncologist who played an essential role in establishing the subject in Bangladesh. With his utmost efforts, the subject is booming as a specialty, and he is now well on his way to master’s degree course in the country. He graduated from Dhaka Medical College in 1982. Before joining the field, he had the opportunity to achieve a clinical fellowship at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK, and Aichi Cancer Center, Nagoya, Japan. After that, he got training in breast surgery at the National Cancer Institute Bangkok and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City. Under his initiative, a national guideline on gastric cancer management was set up and published. After his retirement in 2017, he focused entirely on Breast surgery and dedicated himself to creating a generation of breast surgeons. He is running a course on ‘Advanced breast cancer surgery’ at the Bangladesh School of Oncoplastic Surgery under the umbrella of the Bangladesh Cancer Society for interested breast surgeons. He received six government research grants and is now working on a government-sponsored research project on the diet, lifestyle, and epigenetics of breast cancer. He also worked for breast cancer awareness and screening programs at different times. He is a widely traveled person who participated in conferences and workshops on cancer, particularly breast cancer, across the globe. He is the author of 70 research papers. He dreams of a comprehensive breast center in Bangladesh.
