Yongfeng Shang, PhD

Academician – Chinese Academy of Sciences
President – Hangzhou Normal University
Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Peking University Health Science Center, China

Dr. Shang is a Molecular Biologist, devoted to the study of the molecular mechanisms involved in breast and endometrial carcinogenesis. He obtained his Ph.D. degree at the Pennsylvania State University in 1999 and did postdoctoral training in Dr. Myles Brown’s lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School. He established his lab at Peking University in 2002 in China. Over the years, Dr. Shang has published multiple high-impact papers in leading International journals. His representative works include dissecting the mechanisms underlying the functional specificity of estrogen signaling pathway; identifying the key effector in mediating endometrium proliferation and carcinogenesis in response to estrogen and tamoxifen treatment; illustrating the epigenetic regulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition during breast carcinogenesis; and characterizing a series of novel genes that are implicated in cell growth, differentiation, and tumorigenesis. Dr. Shang has won numerous honors and awards including the Eli Lilly Scientific Excellence Award, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Advancement Awards, the National Outstanding Young Scientist Award, and the Academic Excellence Award of the Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009. Dr. Shang has been the Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Peking University Health Science Center, the President of Tianjin Medical University, and the President of Capital Medical University, and is actively involved in the editorial boards of biochemistry and cancer journals.
