Sunil Saini, MBBS, MS

Dr. Saini is a Cancer Surgeon, serving in Dehradun in the foothills of Himalayas, Uttarakhand State of North India. He graduated from Banaras Hindu University and subsequently trained at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York. He started his medical career in 1992 serving in the Himalayan Hospital mission, which is located in a forested underserved rural area of the region. As the hospital was still under construction, he started cancer care in a tin shed on the campus. The place has now grown into a large university campus named Swami Rama Himalayan University. This institute has grown into the largest cancer institution in this region because of his continuous, focused efforts. He has vast experience of treating thousands of cancer patients over the last 30 years from western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand regions, performing complex surgical procedures for all common and rare cancers. Dr. Saini has special focus and expertise in surgical management of the cancers of breast, head and neck, and esophagus and upper aerodigestive tract. Dr. Saini actively treats a large number of younger women with breast cancer, which is about one-fourth of new patients with breast cancer at the cancer hospital. His research interests include clinical oncology, palliative and supportive oncology, cancer database, and tissue banking. He has published more than 100 articles and completed many sponsored research projects. He has received numerous awards and acknowledgments for serving cancer patients and bringing cancer awareness in the region.
